(Saturday):
This morning we met up with Scott’s
good friend from Maine who was in California for work. He had been to San
Francisco a few times previously so he was our tour guide for the day. It
worked out wonderfully because he had a small rental car that was great for
getting around the small, hilly roads of the city. We first went to the piers
along the water of North East San Francisco. I would highly recommend visiting
this area. We saw several street performers doing comedy skits, and magic
tricks which was entertaining. There is a great variety of restaurants and
café’s along the water to get some fresh seafood. I ended up trying a crab
bisque soup in a Sourdough bread bowl which was delicious and we split a 60
ounce Mojito for $22 which was worth it.
There are a few maritime displays
showing off ships and boats that you can read about and explore. There was a
farmer’s market going on where we sampled dark chocolate almond caramel pieces
and fresh fruit. There was a great display of fresh, local produce. After walking
around the city for a few hours we drove to Lombard Street which is a super
curvy street in San Francisco that has been in many movies for its’ unique
design. It’s a pretty short drive and many people were walking it, taking
pictures.
Then we went to “Land’s End” on the
west side of San Francisco. Here, you will find the Pacific Ocean, big waves
and kite surfers. Then we went back to Scott’s friend’s hotel, had some Mexican
burritos from chipotle and played some card games. Overall, we had a great day
exploring San Francisco. If I could’ve done anything else in San Francisco it
would’ve been to see Alcatraz Island and Angel Island via the Ferry. We were
unable to get tickets for these two islands because they were sold out for 2-3
weeks into April.
